This story was written by a good friend of mine named Sharon Kistler.
I had to pass it on. Enjoy!
“Bill and I were driving home 4th of July night…and we saw something in the road…we slowed down and it looked like a possum…Bill said “no it’s a dog”
so I jumped out of the truck and picked the little guy up…it was a chihuahua, a heafty one..he was scared and stressed. We gave him a little water, and cuddeling to calm him down and then home to meet our two dogs, Princess and Bogie and they all got along to our surprise (our dogs seemed to know that he needed our help)
The next day we took him to the Humane Society to get him scanned for a micro chip…and yea! he had one, but it was traced to a Kennel in Missouri, (they were closed on Sun.) I called Monday and they said they had no information but to called the breeder who is in Michigan…called Michigan they had a name.
The number for that name in our area was unlisted…so Bill suggested I look up the name in the white pages on the internet… a few names came up, mostly relatives, no one answered any of the calls.
In the mean time… things were fine on the homestead and all the dogs seem to be happy running as a pack (with Yoda trying to keep up) chasing squirrels …OH, YODA BOY as we named him because with his pointy ears he looked like yoda…(Julie’s idea) the little guy was growing on us and we rolled our eyes thinking about having THREE dogs, but he was a sweetheart and NO yapping from this Chihuahua… so we were going to love & care for him till we found the owners.
He took naps with Bill, slept in our room…seem to want to play a little, we took pictures of him with us, being a part of our family… and we even checked with a VET (Who was… Dr. Jill Terry because we were concerned what to feed him because when we weighed him he was 17lbs! and she gave us great advice and so on…)
The next day (day4) we decided to drive to one of the addresses we had. When we went to the door and asked about the family name BINGO! and then I told them we found a dog…the lady in the background yelled “Is it a fat Chihuahua” and I said “yes” and she said Oh my God…they found EDDIE!!
My first reaction, Of course was, what?? Eddie That was my Dad’s Nickname. I just coudn’t get over that of all the gazillion names ( I was then convinced Dad had something to do with all of this
well we went back home to get Eddie/Yoda Boy and took him to his loving home a beautiful young couple with a three year old boy. They were sooo happy (The story was the dog went out do his business, the husband forgot he was out fpr spme time and he wandered off…probably spooked by fireworks)
And as it turned out poor Eddie had a rare case of Meningitis that paralyzed him, he was treated by a Dr. at USF and even written up in a medical journal.
He had this tremendous weight gain from Chemo and Steroids! and the NO barking was that he actually lost his voice from the Chemo treatments. After hearing all this and what the family had been through, we were so glad it was us who found him.
We told the owners He was so easy to love, what an adorable little sweet dog he was.”
Here is a picture of Eddie at home and the signs that his family had posted around town.
Just thought I would share this heartwarming story with a happy ending!
